Failure Data Collecting & Processing

Failure data collection and analysis are closely connected with all reliability activities. Failure data collecting should start at the early stages of systems design and go on through the entire product life cycle. Both the suppliers and the users must perform the detailed tracking and analysis of equipment malfunctions and failures. Our FRACAS specialists establish the failure data collection procedure defining the most critical data types for each phase of the product life cycle and ensuring the comprehensive processing leading to corrective action and preventive maintenance. Timely failure data collection, recording and processing with the help of our FavoWeb software help to prevent failures from recurring and simplify and reduce maintenance tasks. Providing data for statistical analysis Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) is a closed-loop feedback path in which the user and the supplier work together to collect, record, and analyze failures of both hardware and software data sets. The user captures predetermined types of data about all problems with a particular tool or software and submits the data to that supplier. A Failure Review Board (FRB) at the supplier site analyses the failures, considering such factors as time, money, and engineering personnel. The resulting analysis identifies corrective actions that should be implemented and verified to prevent failures from recurring.

Trend Analysis

Accurate trend analysis is one of the most valuable outcomes of timely and well-defined FRACAS. Our FRACAS experts will perform the trend analysis assessing historical reliability performance: MTBF, MTTR, availability, preventive maintenance, etc. Analysis of deficiencies patterns allows to define the failure trend, and finally contributes to prevention of failures and unnecessary maintenance activities.

Corrective Action

Our FRACAS experts will assist you in definition of corrective actions based on the collected engineering data. The benefits of early implementation of corrective action become apparent both to the manufacturer as the failure occurrences decrease at the manufacturing line and in the field. Your organisation will be able to fulfill the ISO 9000 requirements for the corrective action. Determination of the appropriate corrective action sequence is one of the main goals of failure data collecting process.

Field Reliability Analysis

The collection of field performance data is a crucial element in monitoring reliability. Field data collection is a vital part of a FRACAS process.

Field data collection should include:

  • Incident/Failure technical info (part no. s/n, operation time/meters)
  • Description/Symptoms
  • Environment conditions
  • Suspected cause
  • Repaired items
  • Repair time and comments
  • Root cause

FRACAS Software Customization

Adaptation of FRACAS process is indispensable element of FRACAS success. Each organization has its own unique data collection sources, process and desired outputs. Forcing a global data collection forms, pre-defined workflow and outputs, proved to constrain FRACAS success.

We offer a user configurable system which easily adapts to organizations needs:

  • Customized workflow, data collection forms, user configurable output reports and much more.
  • Our administrator mechanism allows organizations to retain their freedom with implementation of new projects into the failure reporting and analysis system, enhancing workflow and data collection by themselves.

ILS Planning

Our ILS experts perform the entire range of ILS activities starting with ILS planning, analysis of ILSP and SOW. We will help you to translate supportability and readiness targets into statements of work and specifications. Our ILS team identify and define Logistic Support Requirements analysing: RFP, SOW, documented requirements; historic data from similar projects; ILS management in the organizations / companies involved; economic impact of the ILS requirements and integration of financial considerations in the identification of logistic requirements. Our ILS team prepares ILS Plans answering customer requirements of Logistic Support Analysis (LSA). Each ILSP has been tailored to specific needs of the project, taking into account the size and complexity of the project, technologies involved, as well as operational requirements.

Logistics Support Analysis (LSA)

LSA activities should be a part of a mainstream System Engineering Process, to enable timely and effective implementation of the LSA results in the development process. Our ILS team identifies ILS and system engineering standards for the common use of the LSA records shared by subcontractors and main contractor. Application of cost-effective approach in selection and tailoring of LSA ensures the achievement of the easy, error-free and laconic data flow between the parties involved without enormous overhead of the data bases, characteristic for outdated approaches. Our ILS experts have been involved in extensive LSA activities creating an LSA data base tailored to answer the specific needs of the project.

Spare Parts Optimization

Our ILS specialists are among the world leaders in the field of theory and practice of initial provisioning of spare parts for major systems. Our experts have developed unique algorithms for spare parts optimization based on Cost-Availability and similar system criteria. Our expertise lies in initial spare parts planning and optimisation for complex multi-indenture level systems in a multi-echelon logistic environment. Our ILS team has generated initial spare parts provisioning lists for dozens of projects of various scopes from the subsystems including only several LRUs to major weapon systems with hundreds of LRUs. Initial spare parts recommendations for new systems are based on reliability predictions results and usage of historic data, wherever available. Spare parts quantities recommendation always takes into account operational requirement, such as wartime missions, requirements for possibility of independent operation of units, etc.

Life Cycle Cost (LCC)

Our ILS experts performed hundreds of LCC analysis for the various systems – from minor systems consisting of several LRU, and up to entire major weapon systems. Starting from preliminary LCCA for the stage of concept evaluation, all the way to elaborate evaluation of alternatives leading to the final decision making.

Combination of all steps of the LCC or application of the selected few depend on the complexity and needs of a project:

  • Creation of a Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) with cost models for each CBS element
  • Definition of a set of all feasible alternatives, i.e. design configurations, operational and environmental profiles, maintenance and logistics policies, distribution channels, transportation options.
  • Total LCC calculation for the entire system / system part for any activity for each alternative and for each period of the life cycle.
  • Sensitivity Analysis
  • Generation of required reports – tables and graphs.
